That's not the end of the story, though. The next chapter was last week after a really bad week of severe thunderstorms in our area. Same tree, other half of same limb, fell in the other direction, and luckily its fall was broken by other branches on the same tree, as it landed on our neighbor's roof! Not that this particular neighbor would even notice, as he is a bit neglectful when it comes to his house & yard.
And this time, Bob the Chain Saw Massacre Man, was not allowed to climb up 30-40' and take care of the broken limb!!!! (Even though you could see the wheels turning in his mind as he assessed the damage!!). So, out came a tree guy, who told the ignorant NYC couple, that the tree was indeed healthy and that it was a red maple. A tree may grow in Brooklyn, but we really know nothing about trees, even their names!!!! So, our wonderful Swiss Family Robinson tree house tree got to stay (it overhangs our deck and makes you feel like you are in a tree house), minus a few limbs! And while the knowledgeable one was in our yard, we had him look at ALL the trees and see if anything needed to be done on those. (Wow, we now know that we have an ash tree in our backyard!). So, three other limbs were thinned off a 50' I- forget -what- kind- of -tree, and Bob & I had confirmation that we are truly duhs when it comes to arbor knowledge!!!
